Lunch with a Punch - New Business Forum
Stephen and I have decided to launch “Lunch with a Punch” a monthly networking and mini talk event. It's a chance for former and current business Boot Camp members to get together, to share ideas and maybe pass some business around.
It is always interesting to hear how former members are doing. We often hear people are still implementing and applying the skills and techniques they learnt during their course. Some people have taken off in different directions from the original business plan and always say that the core skills they learn whilst on the course are still proving useful.
As you may already know Stephen and I are committed networkers. We thought it would be great if we could get together with the people we've worked with and share some of the great ideas and successes they have achieved. We also decided to encourage those people who are interested in joining the business Boot Camp to come along and meet the rest of the “family”
We also wanted give value to those people who attended. Maybe an update on previous course material, a little bit of revision or something new and exciting we discovered. So during each meeting there will be a 15 minute “ mini lesson” by both or one of us.
We will be holding these monthly meetings at:
Iffin Farmhouse, Iffin Lane, Canterbury, Kent CT4 7BE. Run by Sarah Harman - a former course member.
It will only cost you a tenner.
if you'd like to come to our next Lunch meeting it is on St Patrick's Day March 17, 2011

The first blog entry - taking stock
Well I've connected the site to this blog entry and if all things are equal, it should now be working. This blog will be about the business Boot Camp, now in its fourth year, run by Stephen Askew and Laurie Philp.
I'll aim to keep it up date so you can get some idea of the sort of things that are going on behind the scenes.
I decided to do some counting the other day and discovered that I've actually launched or been involved with starting over 200 photography businesses. Some in America and Australia but the majority here in the UK.
Then I decided to count the number of businesses I've been involved with working as a consultant, adviser or coach in the general world of business and there are now over 600. The majority of them were small businesses usually employing less than 10 people. The most unusual business I've worked with was a bagpipe player who wanted to improve his marketing and get more work while living in Hastings. My largest client who I've worked for in the UK and America is Pfizer the global pharmaceutical company.
So over some 20 years I've had the fun and pleasure and sometimes pain of being involved with business growth, development, creativity and innovation. What amazes me is that despite the increasing technology and the speed at which data and information can be moved around business is still about people. People buy people first and whatever else second. People still prefer to do business with a person. I really do believe it is the interpersonal skills that make the biggest difference.
So although the delivery methods change and we can make mistakes faster than ever before, good businesses, even great or excellent, are always customer driven, user friendly and responsive to change.
Even this blog was dictated to my computer and my fingers never even touched the keyboard.
